The Northwest District of the Wesleyan Church welcomed Rev. Wesley Smith as the new District Superintendent after the election at District Conference on June 28, 2017. Wesley, the son of Isaac and Esther Smith, served the past six years as superintendent of the Mountain Plains District. Previously, he served as senior pastor of New Life Wesleyan Church in Gillette, Wyoming. Wesley Smith attended Oklahoma Wesleyan University, where he played basketball. He later transferred to the University of Wyoming and earned a degree in business marketing.
He and his wife, Christine, have three children: Morgan, 21; Caleb, 19; and Dawson, 14.
By the grace of God I have been serving our Lord for 53 years. I have been married to Esther for almost 48 years and we have three sons, three daughters in law, and seven grandchildren. All of us are following Jesus and trying to honor His name and Build His Kingdom.
Pastor Wayne joined the District Leadership Team in July of 2009, having prevously served as an Assistant Pastor at Mitchell Wesleyan (Mitchell, SD). He and Judy have been married for 48 years and have two children – Jeremy (married to Paige) and Rachel (married to Chris Swarthout) – as well as nine beautiful grandchildren with whom they are blessed to share their lives!
Wayne has a passion to help men and women respond to a call to ministry, and to help move them forward toward ordination. He also enjoys walking, hiking, reading, Vikings NFL, and NASCAR!
I have been married for 24yrs to my beautiful wife, Brenda. We have 3 children - 2 are in college and 1 is a sophomore in high school. I was in vocational ministry in the church for 21 years in a variety of different roles; most recently my family planted a church in Pierre, SD in 2011. We just recently moved to the Northern Hills of South Dakota. I like to spend time with my family, hunt, fish, and ranch, really anything outdoors is enjoyable. I am pretty eclectic – liking a lot of different types of food, music, and movies, but my favorites are steak and baked potatoes, country music, and all the Bourne movies.
The first time I truly experienced God is when I was in the mountains! Being outdoors has always been my happy place, so much that I graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science in Recreation with an emphasis in outdoors and therapeutic. Since my mountaintop experience, I’ve always felt a calling to serve. I spent several years serving in a church in Texas and S. Dakota and now I am incredibly blessed to work for the Northwest District of The Wesleyan Church, which has turned out to be my "dream job".
I have three awesome kiddos (Adeline, Grayston, and Harper) that make me laugh every day. When I'm not working, I enjoy sipping on coffee, being outdoors, baking, exercising and spending time with my husband and kids.
